Ramadan English Circle Brings IKS IUP Students to Study 100 Hadiths about Islamic Manners
The Social Welfare Study Program (IKS) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta held a Ramadan English Circle during the holy month of Ramadan, featuring a study of 100 Ahadith, a collection of prophetic traditions that explore themes of moral conduct and ethical behavior. The book was compiled and published by Global Darussalam Publishers, an international Islamic publishing house based in London.
The program, which ran from February 23 to March 10, 2026, was organized in the form of a halaqah, or study circle, and was designed specifically for students in the experimental International Undergraduate Program (IUP) class of the IKS program. The initiative aimed to create a learning environment that integrates Islamic ethical values with the development of academic reading and communication skills in English.
During each session, students read the hadith texts in Arabic, followed by the English translation. The sessions then continued with explanations of the historical and ethical context of the hadith, along with interactive discussions through question-and-answer exchanges. To accommodate different learning needs, the program used a mixed format: some sessions were conducted in person in the classroom, while others were held online.
The sessions were led by the Head of the IKS Program, Muhammad Izzul Haq, PhD, who highlighted the importance of studying the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad as a foundation for character formation and social ethics. Through the program, students were encouraged not only to deepen their understanding of the Prophet’s teachings on moral conduct but also to strengthen their ability to read, interpret and discuss Islamic texts in an international academic setting.
The Ramadan English Circle is expected to contribute to character development among students while fostering an academic culture that brings together scholarship, spiritual reflection and global communication skills within the Social Welfare Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.
