IKS UIN Jogja Participates in APKPSI Core Curriculum Workshop
The Indonesian Association of Social Welfare and Social Work Education (APKPSI) convened a national meeting to review and map the core curriculum for Social Welfare and Social Work study programs. The event took place at Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta on Sunday (May 18, 2025), and was attended by 30 participants, including APKPSI board members and heads of study programs from across the country.
This meeting was driven by the need to align the national curriculum with international standards, particularly the Global Standards for Social Work Education and Training developed by the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW), and the ASEAN Social Work Consortium (ASWC).
Dr. Rudi Saprudin Darwis, M.Si., Chair of APKPSI, emphasized the urgency of curriculum revision in light of Law No. 14 of 2019 on Social Work, which encourages higher education institutions to establish a Professional Social Work Education track. "There is a need for all Social Welfare and Social Work study programs to adjust their competencies and curriculum according to Level 6 of the Indonesian Qualifications Framework (KKNI). This meeting also aims to assess how the core curriculum, established in 2019, has been implemented so far," he stated.
Meanwhile, Dr. Getar Hati, Head of APKPSI’s Division of Curriculum and Competency Development, highlighted the importance of regional curriculum synchronization. “Harmonizing the curriculum at the ASEAN level is essential to produce culturally competent social work graduates. The learning standards delivered through each course should reflect both global and ASEAN developments,” she explained.
APKPSI also proposed the inclusion of ASEAN-relevant courses into the national core curriculum, such as: Social Work in Multicultural Societies, International Social Work, and Digitalization in Social Welfare and Social Work.
One key outcome of the meeting was a collective agreement that all study programs must integrate 60 credit units (SKS) from the APKPSI-endorsed core curriculum into their academic structure.
The Social Welfare Studies Program (IKS) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta was represented at the meeting by its Head of Program, Muhammad Izzul Haq, Ph.D. This participation reaffirms IKS’s ongoing commitment to advancing professional and globally relevant social work education in Indonesia.
