UIN Sunan Kalijaga Social Welfare Student Presents on the Implications of AI for Social Work at International Conference
Mohammad Ilham Nadlifuddin, a 2022 cohort student of the Social Welfare Studies Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, successfully participated in an international conference hosted by Students for Global Change (SGC) in collaboration with the Students Association for Micro Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington, United States. Held virtually on March 24, 2025, the conference gathered social work students from around the world. The event aimed to showcase student contributions in addressing global challenges through research and practice, promote cross-cultural collaboration, and deepen global understanding of the role of social work.
Ilham presented his paper titled “Opportunities and Challenges: The Implications of Artificial Intelligence for Social Work Practice in the Digital Era.” In his presentation, he explored how the integration of AI is reshaping social work practice in the digital age. He also identified strategic approaches to harnessing AI technologies without compromising the core human values, ethics, and professionalism that underpin the field. His research revealed that AI is increasingly used in group-based interventions, educational content creation, and assisting social workers with data processing and administrative tasks. However, he emphasized that social work as a profession cannot be replaced by AI, as it is deeply rooted in empathy and human relationships.
Mohammad Ilham Nadlifuddin’s participation in this international conference stands as a proud achievement and a testament to the growing contributions of UIN Sunan Kalijaga students in global dialogues on social work. His accomplishment is expected to inspire fellow students to continue making meaningful contributions in both academic and professional spheres of social work.
