The 11th Congress and National Seminar organized by the Indonesian Association of Social Welfare and Social Work Education (ASPEKSI) took place at the University of North Sumatra (USU) in Medan from Tuesday to Friday, December 3–6, 2024.
The event was attended by representatives from 21 universities out of the 32 universities across Indonesia that offer social welfare (Kessos) and social work education and are members of ASPEKSI. Also present were Prof. Dr. Bambang Shergi, Chair of the Indonesian Consortium of Social Work (KPSI), and Dr. Puji Pujiono, Chair of the Independent Association of Professional Social Workers of Indonesia (IPSPI).
The congress proceeded in an orderly manner, marked by a vibrant democratic spirit. Participants actively engaged in various sessions, including plenary meetings to discuss the accountability report of the previous leadership, the organizational bylaws (AD) of ASPEKSI, and the election procedures. The process culminated in the election of a new chairperson, with Dr. Rudi Darwis from UNPAD being elected as the new Chair of ASPEKSI, replacing Prof. Dr. Oman Sukmana from UMM, who had led ASPEKSI from 2016 to 2024. Representing the Social Welfare Studies Program (IKS) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga were Muhammad Izzul Haq (Program Head) and Khotibul Umam (Deputy Program Head).
In his inaugural address, Dr. Rudi Darwis expressed his commitment to continuing the work programs from the previous leadership period. Additionally, he emphasized that his team would provide full support to universities offering Social Welfare programs under the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag). Currently, there are four Social Welfare programs under Kemenag, namely UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, UIN Alauddin Makassar, and UIN Ar Raniry Banda Aceh.
In addition to electing a new chairperson, the 11th Congress also reached a significant agreement to rename the organization to the Indonesian Association of Social Welfare and Social Work Education (APKPSI).
