Sharing Session on the Roles and Challenges of Helping Education and Profession in Australia and Indonesia

On Friday, June 28, 2024, the Social Welfare Studies Program (IKS) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga hosted a Public Lecture featuring Dr. Margaret Spencer and Prof. Susan Goodwin, both faculty members in Social Work at the University of Sydney. The lecture was moderated by Muhammad Izzul Haq andwas complemented by a discussion with Dr. Lathiful Khuluq, both faculty member of the IKS program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The theme of the session was "Sharing Session on the Roles and Challenges of Helping Education and Profession in Australia and Indonesia." The event aimed to broaden insights into social work in Indonesia and Australia, inspire students to develop new ideas, and provide an overview of best practices in the field of social work in both countries.

During their presentations, Margaret and Susan explained the development of social work in Australia, beginning with an overview of the history of British colonization on the continent and the accompanying social issues. Meanwhile, Dr. Lathiful Khuluq presented an overview of social problems in Indonesia, highlighting the challenges faced by social workers in addressing these issues.

The event was officially opened by Dr. Pajar Hatma Indra Jaya, M.Si., Vice Dean for Collaboration and Student Affairs at FDK UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Prior to the guest lecture, a token of appreciation was presented to Mr. Sudarmawan, who is set to retire on July 1, 2024, after 14 years of service in the IKS program. The event was also attended by students from the 2023 cohort of the PBSB-LPDP Santri Scholarship Program.
